First topic message reminder :

Faolan is a 900 year old witch who's been quite happy to wander Ireland and the world for a while. Having found a trace of strange magic in a pub, he's working on finding the witch to make sure that they're not untrained, and therefore dangerous.

Saoirse is a young selkie-witch with no real knowledge of her witch heritage. Having sold her home after her father died, she's just roaming the country busking for money, unaware that she's leaving a breadcrumb trail of magic that Faolan can follow.

Spotting her movement before it happened, the witch murmured a couple of words and sent the sphere zooming away from him before it could hit, the water vanishing into the woods without reappearing. Quirking an eyebrow at his student, he leaned on his staff again. “Good try. Pronounce your spell more clearly and you’ll garner more control. Try again.” It was wonderful to see that she seemed to have bounced back from her trials, and that meant they could get back to training her to control herself and the water that was linked to her. For now not speaking so he didn’t distract her, he watched her try again with a critical gaze.

Watching with some disappointment as her attempt failed to work, Saoirse however paid close attention when he suggested she try again and to pronounce her spell more clearly, he didn’t seem displeased or annoyed at all, more slightly amused. Reaching for her magic, the young selkie focused properly and spoke each syllable of the spell as clearly as she could. Watching as a large ball of water lifted out of the water that was better formed she couldn’t help herself and wound up reaching out to it bursting into laughter when it instantly collapsed and doused her with water. Pushing now heavy dark red hair out of her face, she was still smiling and giggling to herself “lesson learned, don’t go to actually touch it when you’re still learning” once more she said the spell and the water responded quicker this time, lifting up in a ball that she made sure she didn’t touch despite the temptation. Turning around to face Faolan with it floating next to her, she waited to hear if he’d tell her anything else to do with it or if she could just have fun with it, it’d taken her a long time to come back from what had happened but she’d made up her mind that she had to keep going forward and let the past serve as a lesson not a shackle, ti was of course harder at night when there was nothing distracting her from her thoughts but during the day she could feel happiness again.

Well aware of where the sphere of water was that he was controlling with the spell, Faolan continued to watch his student. Most tried to touch the water spheres, so he wasn’t surprised when she did and got drenched in water. She tried again though which was good and it turned out much better than the first two attempts. “Better. It’s holding its shape and staying with you. If you remember the spell, split it into two spheres.” His sphere finally came back to him and split perfectly before both zoomed away to vanish again. Perfectly in control of his power, the old witch stayed where he was while he watched his student, ready to correct her or counter with a spell of his own if need be. It had been a long time since he’d last had a student, and he’d almost forgotten how good it was to see them grow and learn.

Feeling him cuddle closer to her the demon sighed quietly, supposing she’d better start reteaching him things she commented quietly  “Remind me to start teaching you about creatures again. You’ve got a lot to catch up on” she also made a mental note to do some research on things, there had to be something about missing memories on the internet that’d have some suggestions. All she knew for true was that he had found her humanity, he was the one thing that made her blackened soul good, the love that they shared kept away the darkest urges and impulses that went along with being a demon, and thus she’d do anything and everything to help him, no matter the cost. “You’ll have books on selkies in your store, we just need to find them and start patching holes” and pray as ironic as praying was that he continued to trust his gut and not believe the false memories that ice had so cruelly planted in his head. She’d never been one to tell him what she felt a lot and despite being somewhat worried that this would push him away “We met ages ago, literal centuries ago” she might as well tell him everything and patch the holes, fill in the details, the gaps.

Determined to do this right and to do a good job, Saoirse nodded and turned her gaze to the orb that was floating next to her patiently, speaking the spell slowly and carefully. She had a tendency to do that so she didn’t mispronounce words and wind up ruining the spell, managing to pull it off she watched the sphere tremble before morphing into two balls and with some effort she made them zoom around her before they lost their form and splashed down onto the ground. Sweating slightly from the effort she turned back around to her mentor and grinned obviously fairly pleased with herself, “That was fun” speaking the spell again she summoned another sphere of water, enjoying how much this completely occupied her thoughts and kept her so busy that she didn’t have time to think of anything else “What else can I do?” By that she meant was there anything else she could do with the sphere to challenge her, a thought came to her and she turned looking for a suitable spot, the sphere moved to hover between her hands before she moved her hands and the ball at the same time sending it careering around before splitting in two and cheekily sending both spheres at her mentor from different angles.

Memories were coming and going, floating about as she spoke and he managed to pull one out from the fog. “You freed me.” He murmured the words, remembering what had happened better this time around of going through how they’d met. It had still been foggy before she’d brought it up and he pushed at the memory cautiously. “From a different hunter, a collector.” it wasn’t a bad thing to be rehashing old memories, he was remembering other details now going through it again. “My clan was wiped out.” He wasn’t quite sure where that detail had come from but he knew it was starkly true. There wasn’t any way to dispute it.

He simply stepped forward as the two spheres hurtled towards him and let them crash harmlessly into each other behind him. “Good, keep practising with that in your own time. There’s little chance of you exploding anything here, the protection spells are quite extensive.” That was done on purpose for when there were young learners, and it often came in handy. “That basic spell lets you do many things. Straight witches would need to rote memorise more spells to move them but you should be able to use your thoughts. Try experimenting and see what happens.”
